Direction 5 of 12 · Worksheet with a worked example: the task on the left, a real finished example on the right, your hand-in underneath.

Session 3 · Task · changes asked for

Triage a week of email.

Johnnie asked for one change on Friday. Beside the task is a finished example, so you can see what good looks like.

Go to your hand-in

The task

Worth 4 hours. They counted when you first handed in, so you’re already on 38½ hours. 38½ of 90

Take one real week of your inbox. Ask your AI assistant to sort it into four groups: act today, reply this week, read later, ignore.

Write down the rules you gave it, then check its sorting by hand. Hand in what you did and what you learned.

What to hand in

  • How many emails, from which week
  • The rules you gave the assistant
  • What it got wrong, and what you changed

Johnnie · Friday 29 January, 11:20amchanges asked for

Good sorting, Priya: your “act today” pile is exactly right. One change before I accept it.

The one change: Show me the rule you’d give a colleague, not just the sorted list.

Write it so someone else could sort your inbox tomorrow without asking you.

Worked example · from the practice site

A practice manager’s Monday inbox

The rule she’d give a colleague

  1. Act today: anything from a patient’s family, the regulator, or a member of staff who’s off sick.
  2. Reply this week: suppliers, rota requests, and any question addressed to me by name.
  3. Read later: newsletters, sector updates and all-staff announcements.
  4. Ignore: marketing, and anything I’m only copied in on.

Then check every “act today” by hand. Polite but angry is still act today.

What it sorted

180 emails sorted in 9 minutes; 3 moved by hand.

An example, not a template: your rule should fit your own inbox.

Hand in again

A new hand-in. Your first one stays as it is.

Your first hand-in, Tuesday 26 January
What I did
Gave the assistant four groups and sorted 212 emails from the week of 18 January. Checked every “act today” by hand and moved three.
My reflection
It put two complaints into “read later” because they were politely worded. Checking by hand caught them. Next time I’d tell it that tone isn’t urgency.

Kept as it was. Your next hand-in is added alongside it, never over it.

What you changed since your first hand-in.

At least 150 characters, about two sentences. What worked, what didn’t, what you’d change.

Hand in again

Your 4 hours already count. Johnnie will accept it or ask again, usually within two working days.

More help

Ask the AI coach about this task

It has read the brief and Johnnie’s note. It won’t write the hand-in for you.

Ask

Try: “How do I turn my sorted list into a rule someone else could follow?”

Raise your hand: ask Johnnie or the team
