Guide: Teach Claude who you are and what you do
Let Claude interview you, then check and refine a working-context note about you and your work.
The assignment
A working-context note: a package of information about your job that you paste at the start of any AI chat.
Why it helps. A new chat knows nothing about you, so its answers could be for anyone. With your note pasted in first, it knows the key elements of your job: what you do, who your work is for, what it must never see and what a person must always check. Its answers come back much closer to something you’d actually use.
You’ll hand in: Your final one-to-two-page working-context note, a short reflection and the declaration.
Steps
- Open the app, start a new chat and choose Sonnet as the model. This is a conversation plus a short document, so Sonnet is the right fit; save the most capable model for complex or high-stakes work.
- Click Copy prompt to copy the prompt, then paste it in and send it.
- Work through the questions with the agent. We highly recommend using dictation for this step. If you’re not sure what information you’re allowed to share with AI, Claude will offer to work it out with you.Tip: the more context you provide about you and your role, the better your working-context note will be.
- Once you have your first working-context note, go over it to verify facts and address the outstanding sections at the bottom. Try asking Claude to make the changes for you.
- When you are happy with the revision, copy the final note into a document. You’ll use it in the next walkthrough, and later in the course you’ll learn how to stop pasting it altogether.
- Paste it into the box below.
